EHRAN, April 16, 2013 (AFP) - A powerful earthquake rattled southeastern Iran and was felt across the Gulf and South Asia on Tuesday, reports from around the region said.
Iran's Seismological Center reported on its website that the 7.5 magnitude quake struck at 3:14 pm (1044 GMT) about 80 kilometers (50 miles) the border with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
It also shook buildings and forced high-rise offices to be evacuated in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, as well as across northern India, including the capital New Delhi where tremors rattled buildings and caused office-workers to run into the streets.
The website of the US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 7.8, and said it struck near the Iranian city of Khash, in the southeastern province of Sistan Baluchistan. less

The Romanian International Flag Administration (RIFA), Europe's one and only privately run ship register receives pledges from four Hamburg ship owners. Leonhardt & Blumberg, Peter Dohle, Carsten Rehder and Reederei Hamburger Lloyd will bring vessels under the flag of Romania. Registration of the freighters begins on 17 December 2012. During a press conference of the Romanian Naval Authority (RNA) on Wednesday, 5 December 2012 in Constanta, Romania, Secretary Valentin Preda has praised the professional cooperation between RNA and the shareholders of RIFA. Due to the rapid progress, shipowners can already register ships with RIFA at the Romanian International Registry two weeks ahead of schedule.

Even though the ship was within 10 kilometres of the port, it was not allowed to dock because a shipping agency in Salalah, which had taken the responsibility of acting as the ship's local agent on Monday, declined this role yesterday. Later, at around 6 p.m. yesterday, Badar Shipping Agency agreed to shoulder the responsibility, and the ship finally docked at the port.

Bow designs have been modified several times in the past in order to improve ship’s efficiency and stability in sea water. The type of bow design used depends on the characteristics of the vessel, area of operation, and purpose of the ship.
X -bow is a unique bow design which was introduced by the Ulstein Group of Norway in 2006. Since then the design has received great positive reviews from around the world and is now used on several vessels.
So how is X-bow design different from a conventional hull design?
X-bow is a “backward sloping bow” or an inverted ship bow design which is used for increasing the fuel efficiency and safety of the vessel at sea. Russian state-owned company Rosneft and American ExxonMobil have agreed to expand their cooperation under their 2011 Strategic Cooperation Agreement to include seven additional Arctic license areas. They are: Severo-Vrangelevsky-1, Severo-Vrangelevsky-2, Yuzhno-Chukotsky blocks (Chukchi Sea); Ust’ Oleneksky, Ust’ Lensky, Anisinsko-Novosibirsky blocks (Laptev Sea); Severo-Karsky (Kara Sea). Areas cover approximately 600,000 square kilometers, and potential reserves are about 10 billion tones of oil and 7,1 trillion cubic meters of gas.
